Easter Blessings
Wednesday, 15 April 2009 06:00

It is the time of year that we celebrate our Lord's Resurrection from death.  It is a time of rebirth, healings and new beginnings.

As I reflect on coming out of Lent into the miracle of Easter, I can see that we have many "Lents" in our lives, and in the lives of our friends and families.  It is the waiting, the hoping, the faith and the praying for that special grace, that answered prayer, that wisdom or peace that makes us stronger Christians.  As we talk with the many people involved in caring for the needy children in Honduras it is evident that we have all been blessed throughout our "Lents" and seen God's miracles, specifically around God's children.   I find it helpful to keep a hopeful Easter heart all year round.

The blessing of a home like COPPROME is a tremendous one for the children.  There is an outpouring of love for the children from the staff, the volunteers and the visitors.  And the love is reciprocated!  The children look forward to meeting those who help them.  They are growing in God's love, in education, health and well being.  They are our miracles.  Just look at the photo from Sister Teresita, the Founder of COPPROME.

We received the following letter from Sister Teresita in April.

 April 7, 2009

Dear Friends:

Just a little note of gratitude for all your concern about our work with the children and the poor.   Only Jesus knows how many people you have touched with your love and concern, your unselfish continuous support though your donations.

May the presence of Jesus continue in your lives as you care for the very needy.

I wish I would have a special way to thank you for all your support during these many, many years.  Thank you for trusting us to use wisely your donations for the children and the poor.

May the Resurrection of Christ bring his peace into your families as you have brought many resurrections into the lives of the children and the poor.

Blessings,

  Sister Teresita

So, to you and yours this Easter Season - thank you for remembering the underprivileged in Honduras.

Our Christmas Wish!
Tuesday, 23 December 2008 18:30

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you.

As you know, my family recently returned from living in Honduras (for nine months) with an even larger commitment to the children from Honduras.  It is amazing to learn what God sometimes has in store for us.

Living in a third-world country changed us....truly.  It was quite difficult to make the adjustment to living back in the States.  Yes, our fine country offers superb medical care, air conditioning (definitely needed down there) and paved roads.  But, we do miss the camaraderie of our community in Honduras - from the friends stopping by daily to share fruits, vegetables or just conversation to the extra-ordinary visits with volunteers at Arena Blanca or going on outings with the children of Copprome.  By living in Honduras I found that every moment of life does not need to be "planned or scheduled" and that it is really best to have joy in every moment, no matter what that moment brings.

So, you ask then, what is the Christmas Wish I ask for?  It is to spread the joy to the children in Honduras.  I hope that doesn't sound ethereal because it is really the most basic of things.  A child's face is joy-filled when she knows that she and her "65" brothers and sisters will have enough to eat - that they don't have to eat smaller portions because there isn't enough to go around.  Joy is to know that the dedicated founder of the very fine children's home - Copprome -  can pay her employees' salaries because the food bill has been taken care of with donations from friends.  Joy is found in the faces of 60+ children who can go to a safe, clean building to eat, play and study daily  because there are volunteers who have spread the word about their needs.  And spreading joy is exactly what Friends of Los Ninos wants for Christmas and for 2009.

Have you ever seen a child's expression when they are given the latest electronic game or the most cool pair of jeans on the planet?  It's not all that different in Honduras.  I saw that same  joy on adolescents' faces when they learned they would be able to go back to school because someone had paid their tuition for them.  I saw the same  joy on a far too-young new mother's face when she learned that she would have necessary medicines for her baby.  And I saw the same joy on the staff person's face knowing that although she couldn't possibly be paid wages that she truly deserved-  she would be paid "enough" to get some food for her family.  That is joy.  That is our mission - please help.

My wish also is that you and your family be blessed this most Holy Christmas Season.  May the Lord and his ever-loving Mother, Mary, keep you from harm and light your path.

Please remember the underprivileged children from Honduras in your prayers.

All I want for Christmas...

Hola from Honduras!

Since September 2007, I've had the great opportunity to live alongside the very people in Honduras we've been visiting and assisting for almost eight years now. Volunteering with the children and teaching English  has certainly kept me busy.  I'm on my second class now and it is so fun to see the earnestness with which people want to learn!  Living here has been amazing - many, many challenges, but truly a time of blessings for us.

Years ago I wrote an article for the Dallas newspaper talking about reality, how we're jaded by the "reality" in North Texas. I now profoundly understand what reality is for some people in this world of ours. Reality is an 18 year old girl who is a young, single mother with a baby, trying to finish her education but not able to since she has no funds for notebooks nor registration. She wants to get ahead but can't - there are no social programs offered by the government to help her. She can't even feed her baby. Reality is the baby found on the streets with no parent or family member in sight, no one claims her. Reality is the parents with 3 young children who don't have enough money to pay for necessary medicines for their children - and sometimes not enough for food for them, either. Reality is the school teacher, desperately trying to teach 4 and 5 year olds but has absolutely no monetary assistance from her school to buy even pencils. Reality here is living life patiently, with hope and faith, because really -that's all that can be done sometimes.

We are called by God to help others, feed the hungry and clothe the naked. These young people need your prayers and your financial assistance. Your donation of ANY amount will greatly help the children here in Honduras. For more information contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
